Outta The Way Cafe - Rockville, MD - Real American Food and Friendship
Wings are delicious: crispy, piping hot, and perfectly sauced. Currently, the swirlin' variety are my favorite, but BBQ and regular buffalo are just as good. Love the no frills environment and the fact that I can gorge myself on wings sans judgement. The location is NOT that hard to find -- huge signage on the strip mall entrance. Keep an eye open! Looks like I found a new lunch spot! And it's not really that outta the way.
It's actually in the middle of a shopping plaza, split between a restaurant on the left and a bar on the right, with plenty of lot parking out front. There were a few patrons at the bar enjoying a midday meal, which was exactly my intent.
I sipped on an ice water while browsing their menu, eventually deciding on their Reuben sandwich with onion rings. The bartender was a friendly guy and I eventually realized this is considered a "Steelers bar" with a bit of Western PA food and flare. Auto extra star right there.
After my meal arrived, the bartender informed me that my lunch tab was being picked up by the waitress who, seeing me in uniform, was thankful for my service. I was naturally surprised, especially since I would have gladly paid full-price for the delicious sandwich. Instead, I left her a monster tip, extremely thankful for such a kind and generous gesture.
I'll definitely be a "regular" in the near-term future.

The very epitome of the small neighborhood pub. The regulars all know each other, and new folks are always made to feel welcome. Think "Cheers" in Derwood, MD.
The menu is primarily basic "american" fare, and is consistently very well prepared. The wings at the Outta the Way are absolutely the best around.
Live music is a big part of the Outta the Way's draw. Every Thursday night there is an open mic, Fridays have small combos and acoustic music, and Saturdays have live bands.
It has some "sports bar" elements to it, and it is a great place to watch a game (especially if you are a Steelers fan), but it is not overwhelming in this regard; you are unlikely to feel like you just stumbled into some bad frat house, the way many sports-oriented establishments do.
Their motto sums it up pretty well: "Good food, good 'tude."

My friend invited me over here on Friday. I couldnt find it because it really is out of the way, behind Bank of America in a small shopping center. Anyhow, there was a live band playing and it was crowded in the dinning area. I headed to the bar and felt very comfy for a cold winter Saturday night. I ordered the wings with old bay and some tenders with fries. My oh my, they were sooo sooo good. I also love their home made sauces especially the honey mustard.
I hear the rest of their food is amazing, so I cant wait to go back.
I think Tuesdays its trivia night and Weds its $4 martinis..

"I absolutely love this restaurant! Not fancy, which I love, but really good food, especially wings! Service is usually great on the restaurant side and bar side. If you're a Steelers fan you have to go in a game day but make sure you get there early or you're not going to get a seat. It's that popular!
"...my husband and I frequent Outta often, their food is delicious (Swirlin' Wings specifically) and the bartenders are not only great bartenders but all around nice people. They have a full bar and the standard beers on tap - although I must say they have increased their craft selection on tap - which I appreciate! We always enjoy their musical offerings too. Local bands just starting out and bands that have been playing there since the day they opened.
When friends are in town we are always proud to show off our neighborhood-hole-in-the-wall-hang out!

"Good food. Friendly and family service. Burger was delicious & Triple Decker sandwich was great for the price! Definitely recommend and will come back!
"I found out about the Outta the Way Cafe as the restaurant/pub in Rockville that shows Steelers games, but my wife and I frequent it because it has great food and a relaxed atmosphere. Our favorites are the wings and ribs. The decorations are funky chic--stained glass art, colored bubble glass, and cool B&W photos of the Southwest. The staff is friendly, service is good, and prices are reasonable. If you're not a Steelers' fan though, pick a time other than during the Pittsburgh football games. If you are a Steelers fan, gametime is a blast.
"What a great place. We called about 10mins before we arrived with roughly 45 people about 1/2 were kids under 12 and they did great. Food was hot & correct, kids were happy & parents too. We will definitely be back.
"I stumbled upon this "dive" looking for some local food while attending a conference in Gaithersburg (I'm from Ohio). The OTWC was a refreshing alternative to the bland chains that I find parked next to every hotel. I was delighted by the Wasabi (mixed with ginger) wings and overwhelmed by the Triple Shrimp platter. The homemade pirogies that came as a side dish were also delicious. The night before I had shrimp at Joe's Crabshack next to my hotel and walked away hungry...that wasn't possible at the OTWC. I applaud the cafe for supporting the troops (didn't even realize they were so patriotic until I looked them up later on the web) and would highly recommend this restaurant. I'm planning to return there tonight to sample more of their menu before I make the trip home.
